Abia 2027: Otti Faces 11 Challengers as INEC Releases Candidates’ List

INEC has listed 12 candidates for the February 6, 2027 Abia governorship election as Governor Alex Otti seeks a second term on the Labour Party platform.

Governor Alex Otti will face competition from 11 other candidates in the February 6, 2027 governorship election in Abia State, according to the list of candidates displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Otti, who is seeking a second term, is the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), with Ikechukwu Emetu listed as his running mate.

The commission’s list shows that 12 political parties have fielded candidates for the Abia governorship contest.

The candidates include Iroetugo Ndubuisi Ogah of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Ijioma Nwokoro Ijioma of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Kelechi Anosike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Umana Victor Jireh of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Also contesting are Umezurike Doris Uzumma of the African Action Congress (AAC), Uchenna Oleh of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Prince Chibunna Onukwue of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Kelechi Apugo Anthony of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Uba Ekegbara Obasi is the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), while Uchechukwu Charles Ijioma is representing the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Godswill Agu Egbe is listed as his running mate.

George Nwachukwu Ikechukwu is the candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) also appears on the list, with Ngozi Nathaniel listed as its deputy governorship candidate.

The display of the candidates’ list is part of INEC’s preparations for the Abia governorship election, which is scheduled to hold on February 6, 2027.

The number of parties in the race points to a competitive multi-party election as Otti seeks to secure another four years as governor of Abia State.
