Dumebi Kachikwu, a former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has accused a faction of the party led by David Mark of breaching a court order by holding a national convention.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Kachikwu said a Federal High Court had, on April 14, 2026, directed all parties in the dispute to maintain the status quo, barring any congresses or conventions until the case is resolved.

He described the action as reckless and warned of its implications for democracy.

“They have one agenda and one agenda only—to instigate a complete breakdown of law and order in the country through political gangsterism,” he said.

“Their mission statement is: if we can’t have it, no one else can.”

Kachikwu argued that the convention lacked legitimacy and accused participants of focusing on political attacks rather than policy direction.

“What we witnessed was a blame game show… Nowhere in that show of shame did you hear any of them offer one suggestion on what they would do better or differently,” he said.

He also took aim at opposition leaders such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, alleging that they have not done enough to address insecurity and economic challenges.

“These politicians are playing politics with the blood of innocent Nigerians because they want power at all costs,” he said.

Kachikwu insisted that his faction of the ADC remains committed to due process and is working with the Independent National Electoral Commission to organise a lawful convention.

“We are working within the ambit of the law. We are engaging INEC and will communicate our plans to Nigerians at the appropriate time,” he said.

He also expressed confidence that the courts would resolve the dispute and preserve the party’s eligibility for future elections.

“We will litigate this matter to the very end to ensure that our members are not disenfranchised,” he added.
