ADC Endorses NBA Position, Rejects Judicial Interference in Party Affairs
The ADC has aligned with the NBA, rejecting court вмешtion in party affairs and calling for respect for electoral laws.
The African Democratic Congress has aligned with the Nigerian Bar Association in opposing court intervention in internal party disputes.
Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the NBA’s stance validates its long-held position that such matters fall outside judicial jurisdiction.
The statement, released Saturday in Abuja, accused certain actors of attempting to weaken the leadership of David Mark through what it described as improper use of the courts.
Abdullahi argued that the dispute is not genuine litigation but a deliberate attempt to exploit judicial processes for political manipulation.
He characterised the actions as an abuse of court procedures, citing practices such as forum shopping and “mala fide litigation” designed to disrupt the party’s lawful leadership.
He further maintained that any court ruling obtained in violation of statutory provisions remains null and cannot be relied upon in determining party leadership.
The ADC raised concerns over continued recourse to the courts in prohibited matters, warning that such actions create confusion and uncertainty within the party.
The party praised the NBA for upholding the rule of law and cautioning legal practitioners against undermining judicial credibility and democratic principles.
Abdullahi also pointed to the NBA’s call for disciplinary action against erring lawyers as evidence of the seriousness of the situation.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to act impartially and avoid endorsing processes that conflict with the Electoral Act.
Describing the issue as one that extends beyond party politics, Abdullahi said it reflects broader concerns about safeguarding democracy in Nigeria, while reaffirming the party’s commitment to lawful means in defending its mandate.
