ADC Primaries Manipulated for Atiku, Says Babachir Lawal as He Quits Party

Babachir Lawal accused the ADC of conducting a massively rigged primary election designed to benefit Atiku and his associates.

Former SGF Babachir Lawal has exited the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing the party of conducting a flawed primary election process aimed at benefiting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his supporters.

In a statement released on Monday, Lawal alleged that the primaries lacked fairness and transparency.

He described the exercise as “massively rigged,” insisting that the process was structured to produce outcomes favourable to Atiku and his associates.

According to the former SGF, the conduct of the primaries undermined confidence in the party’s internal democratic process and influenced his decision to leave the ADC.

The development comes amid heightened political realignments and preparations by major political actors ahead of the 2027 elections.
