ADC Rules Out PRP Alliance, Fixes Attention on Court Case Ahead of 2027

ADC insists it is not considering alliances, stressing that its court case will decide the party’s future ahead of 2027 elections.

The faction of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark has denied reports of negotiations with the Peoples Redemption Party, stressing that its priority remains an ongoing court case expected to influence its political direction ahead of 2027.

The party’s position comes as the Supreme Court of Nigeria prepares to hear its appeal challenging a lower court decision that barred Mark from presenting himself as national chairman.

Amid speculation that the faction could seek alternative platforms if the ruling goes against it, the ADC insisted the matter is fundamentally about legality and democratic principles, not political alliances.

Responding to the claims, National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said:

“Our attention has been drawn to a report currently in circulation alleging that the African Democratic Congress is engaged in discussions with another political party, specifically the Peoples Redemption Party, in anticipation of an impending court judgment. We wish to state categorically that this claim is false.”

He continued:

“The coalition leadership is not engaged in any such discussions with any political party at this time. We remain fully committed to ensuring that the unlawful actions taken against our leadership by INEC and other agents of the ruling party are overturned.”

“We firmly believe that this is the only viable path to safeguarding the rule of law and preserving Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.”

The party further described claims of abandoning the ADC platform as unfounded.

“Accordingly, any suggestion that we are contemplating abandoning the ADC is premature, speculative, and should be disregarded.”

The dispute originated from a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, who argued that he should assume leadership in line with the party’s constitution after the exit of founder Ralph Nwosu.

Following the legal tussle, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced it would not recognise either faction pending court resolution.

The Supreme Court panel, headed by Mohammed Garba, has scheduled April 22 for hearing the appeal.

In parallel, party youths have mobilised protests at INEC offices in Lagos, Ogun and Jigawa, demanding the restoration of the Mark-led leadership.

National Youth Leader Balarabe Rufai said:

“This is a call for accountability, not chaos.
The demand is simple: restore integrity or step aside.”
