Jandor Rejects Tinubu’s Alleged Backing of Hamzat for 2027 Lagos Governorship
Lagos APC aspirant Jandor says Tinubu has not endorsed any candidate and insists the 2027 governorship race is still wide open.
Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has dismissed reports suggesting that Bola Tinubu has endorsed Obafemi Hamzat for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
The former PDP governorship candidate, now an aspirant under the APC, said there has been no official endorsement and noted that Hamzat has yet to publicly declare his intention to run.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Jandor challenged the narrative that the race had already been decided.
“He hasn’t even said to us himself that he is running. He is the deputy governor of Lagos, qualified, with over 20 years of experience in that space.”
He further dismissed claims of presidential endorsement:
“No, the President hasn’t endorsed anyone. I am an aspirant, and we are a few people also gunning for this. We will be the first set of people to know if there is anything like that because communication will come.”
Jandor emphasised that the APC has not adopted a consensus candidate, stating that the party is preparing for direct primaries.
“As we speak, the party says it’s going to be direct primaries. If tomorrow it says this is what we are doing, we will fall in line. The party is supreme.”
He revealed that his meeting with President Tinubu did not include any promise of support or discouragement, reinforcing his resolve to stay in the race.
On his early ambition, he said:
“Absolutely, because if you don’t believe in yourself, nobody will believe in you. When the President was running for the ticket, he came out to say he wanted to run.”
Jandor also maintained that the APC’s dominance in Lagos has weakened opposition parties but reaffirmed his commitment to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.
With Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu nearing the end of his second term, interest in the 2027 race continues to grow, with several prominent figures reportedly considering a run.
