Borno Operations: Army Kills Six Terrorists, Arrests 11 Suspected Aides
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralise six suspected terrorists, arrest 11 alleged collaborators and recover weapons and ammunition in Borno State.
The Nigerian Army says its troops have neutralised six terrorists, arrested 11 suspected collaborators and received the surrender of a Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) member during separate operations in Borno State.
The military disclosed this in an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
The report said the operations were conducted by troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in Kaga and Gwoza Local Government Areas as part of efforts to target terrorist fighters and their suspected support networks.
It stated that troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade Garrison, working alongside Hybrid Force personnel, ambushed suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)/JAS terrorists along the Targejeri axis of Kaga at approximately 12:37 a.m. on October 25.
The encounter resulted in the neutralisation of six terrorists and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three magazines and 169 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
According to the report, troops also recovered two Android phones, three button phones and charms.
The report further disclosed that six more suspected terrorist collaborators were arrested during a follow-up raid in Benisheikh, Kaga, at about 6:20 a.m. on October 24.
It said the latest arrests brought the total number of suspects apprehended in connection with the investigation to 11, including five people arrested earlier.
“Items listed as recovered during the raid included an AK-47 rifle, three empty magazines, 169 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three terrorist uniforms, a turban, a head mask, two Android phones, three button phones and charms,” the report said.
It added that investigations were ongoing to establish the suspects’ alleged roles in terrorist activities and determine whether they had links to other members of the network.
Meanwhile, a JAS member surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion (Main) at the Hambagda Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Gwoza at about 9:20 p.m. on Saturday.
The troops were supported by Hybrid Force personnel.
The report said preliminary investigations suggested that the individual had fled a terrorist enclave in the Mandara Mountains area of Gwoza and subsequently decided to renounce terrorism.
“The individual surrendered with an AK-47 rifle and a magazine containing 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” it added.
The individual was taken into custody for further investigation and processing in accordance with established procedures.
According to the report, the operations form part of OPHK’s ongoing campaign to disrupt terrorist activities, dismantle support networks and encourage defections through sustained, intelligence-led action.
The military called on members of the public to provide credible and timely information to security agencies, saying such cooperation would support efforts to restore peace and help displaced communities return safely to their homes.
