2027 Elections: NDC to Unveil Campaign Council, Disclose Party Accounts
The Nigeria Democratic Congress plans to disclose its financial statement and unveil its campaign council, challenging the APC and other parties to embrace transparency.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to unveil its National Campaign Council and present its financial statement at its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday, October 26.
The party said the disclosure of its statement of account was intended to demonstrate its commitment to financial transparency and accountability, urging other political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to follow suit.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq.
The statement said the NEC meeting would commence at 10 a.m. at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
It identified the presentation of the party’s financial records by the National Treasurer as one of the key items on the agenda.
“A major highlight of the meeting will be the release and presentation of the party’s Statement of Account by the National Treasurer. This is in deference to our avowed commitment to the principles of transparency and accountability,” the statement said.
The NDC also called on other political parties to make their financial management more open to public scrutiny.
“In this regard, we challenge other political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to emulate this level of openness and transparency in the management of their finances,” it added.
Addressing concerns about its finances, the party said its financial resources could have been more substantial if more of its candidates had been able to purchase nomination forms.
It blamed the situation on prevailing economic difficulties, alleging that approximately 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford the expression of interest forms.
“However, contrary to speculations in the public domain, and due to the level of poverty, hunger and deprivation in the country occasioned by the rudderless APC and its amorphous economic policies, about 80% of our candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms,” the party stated.
According to the statement, the NDC subsequently issued the forms to the affected candidates free of charge.
The party said its National Campaign Council would oversee campaigns for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
It also disclosed that candidates contesting for the various offices would be presented with their certificates of return during the meeting.
As preparations for the 2027 general election continue, the NDC described itself as ready to contest and pledged to offer Nigerians what it called altruistic leadership.
“The NDC is turbo-charged and ready to give Nigerians the altruistic leadership the nation deserves,” the statement said.
