Jide Kosoko Reveals 30-Year Battle With Diabetes, Says ‘I Just Do Not Want To Die’
Jide Kosoko says he has lived with diabetes since 1996, explaining how years of managing the condition have shaped his understanding of his health.
Veteran Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that he has managed diabetes since 1996, saying his long experience with the condition has helped him become more familiar with his health.
Kosoko made the disclosure during a recent appearance on the Talk to B Show, where he discussed his personal experiences, decades-long acting career, family life and concerns about social media.
“I have been diabetic since 1996; I have been managing it. I understand my health better than some doctors do. Do not misquote me. I am not saying I know how to do everything, I just do not want to die,” the actor stated.
‘I Have Lost Three Wives’
Beyond his health, Kosoko shared a painful aspect of his personal life, revealing that he had lost three wives over the years.
Among them was the mother of his daughter, Bidemi Kosoko, who died while giving birth.
“I lost my wife during childbirth; that’s Bidemi’s mother. I have lost three wives,” he disclosed.
Veteran Actor Recounts His Early Theatre Career
The Nollywood star also reflected on his contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry, tracing his involvement in theatre to his childhood.
According to Kosoko, he began acting at the age of 10 in 1964 before establishing his own theatre group in 1972.
“I started theatre at age 10, in 1964, and formed my own group in 1972. I make bold to say that I am one of the pioneers of this industry,” he said.
His remarks highlighted his decades of involvement in the development of Nigeria’s theatre and film industries.
Kosoko Urges Parents To Treat Children Equally
Offering advice on family relationships, the actor emphasised that parents should avoid favouritism and ensure that all their children feel equally important and appreciated.
“Treat your children equally; let them know they’re equal in your mind,” he said.
Social Media: ‘Some Use It Uselessly’
Kosoko also reflected on the growth of social media, noting that many people were initially apprehensive about the platform before discovering ways to benefit from it.
While acknowledging its usefulness, he criticised individuals who, in his view, depend on certain types of content and behaviour to generate income online.
“When social media was coming, we were afraid. But now we use it to our advantage. Some use it uselessly. Must you shake your bumbum and talk about jargons before you make money?” he asked.
The actor’s comments touched on health management, family experiences, parenting and the changing role of social media in contemporary society.
