Report: Woman Suspected to Be Nigeria’s Ebola Index Patient Flown Out by Air Ambulance
A woman reportedly identified as Nigeria’s Ebola index patient was allegedly flown out of Abuja by air ambulance, but authorities have yet to confirm the report.
A woman believed to be Nigeria’s reported Ebola index patient has allegedly been flown out of the country aboard an air ambulance, according to ARISE News.
The reported evacuation was said to have occurred early Monday at the private aviation section of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
ARISE News reported that sources had earlier told the organisation that the woman, reportedly married to a Swiss diplomat serving in Nigeria, would leave the country at approximately 6 a.m.
According to the report, the organisation’s crew at the airport’s General Aviation Terminal witnessed a convoy of ambulances and diplomatic vehicles arriving at the private aviation area.
Airport officials reportedly restricted access to the location, while video footage subsequently obtained by the news outlet showed a medical evacuation aircraft with its crew preparing to convey a passenger.
The organisation said these developments prompted suspicions that the passenger was the woman reported to be Nigeria’s Ebola index patient.
A source also reportedly indicated that the Federal Government planned to make an announcement after the aircraft had departed and left Nigerian airspace.
Nevertheless, the report did not provide official confirmation from the Federal Government, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), or airport authorities regarding the passenger’s identity, diagnosis or intended destination.
As a result, the circumstances of the reported evacuation and the identity of the passenger remain unverified pending confirmation from the relevant authorities.
