PASTOR ADEBOYE of Redeem

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has defended its General Overseer, Enoch Adejare Adeboye, against claims that he supported or campaigned for the current government, insisting that he has maintained neutrality in partisan politics.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the church said Pastor Adeboye’s position has always been to encourage civic participation among Nigerians by urging church members to obtain their PVCs and vote for candidates of their choice.

RCCG said the cleric has never directed members to support any political party and has consistently refrained from partisan endorsements.

The church also clarified reports suggesting that Pastor Adeboye stopped a planned protest, explaining that he only conveyed a decision taken by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria regarding modifications to a three-day prayer programme and its concluding rally.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye only communicated the instruction of the Pentecostal Fellowship in Nigeria to members of the RCCG on the updated plan to have the grand finale of the Three Day Prayer Program in a centralized venue and hold a rally around the venue. This was communicated by PFN to all churches under PFN in Nigeria.”

Responding to criticism that the cleric remains silent on national challenges, RCCG said Pastor Adeboye has repeatedly spoken on issues affecting the country, including insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, governance and elections.

The statement noted that his interventions are typically expressed through spiritual guidance, prayers and counsel rather than direct political engagement.

“Let it be clearly stated: Pastor Adeboye and The RCCG will not be defined by falsehood, and neither will the Church remain silent while inaccurate narratives are repeatedly circulated as facts.”

RCCG called on journalists, commentators and members of the public to rely on the church’s official communication platforms when seeking information about Pastor Adeboye or its positions on public matters.

“If a claim is not communicated, verified, or endorsed through RCCG’s official communication channels, it should not be regarded as an official position of the Church.”
