Mohamed Salah and Beto headlined a strong weekend for African players in Europe, both scoring in Liverpool’s 2-1 triumph over Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Salah gave Liverpool the lead in the first half, finishing from a Cody Gakpo pass to register his seventh Premier League goal of the campaign. The Egyptian forward also matched Steven Gerrard’s record of nine goals in the derby.

Everton drew level early in the second half when Beto finished from close range after a cross by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, beating goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was later taken off on a stretcher.

Liverpool’s victory boosted their chances of qualifying for the Champions League, with the club sitting fifth and holding a seven-point advantage over Chelsea with five games left.

In Germany, Nicolas Jackson played a key role in Bayern Munich’s 4-2 win over Stuttgart, scoring as the team came from behind to secure the Bundesliga title. The Senegalese striker now has six league goals and two assists this season.

RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande also impressed, scoring a remarkable solo goal in a 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast forward has now contributed 12 goals and seven assists in the league.

Serhou Guirassy was on target for Borussia Dortmund, scoring a late equaliser before Hoffenheim secured a 2-1 win with a penalty.

In France, Bamba Dieng continued his scoring form with a goal in Lorient’s 2-0 victory over Marseille, while Mostafa Mohamed scored for Nantes in a 1-1 draw with Brest as the team continues to battle relegation.
