AIG Olohundare Jimoh Is Rebuilding Trust And Professionalism At Zone 2 -By Kelvin Adegbenga
As citizens, we must continue to demand accountability from our institutions while also giving credit where it is due. In the case of Zone 2 Police Command, the evidence suggests that a new culture of service and responsibility is taking root under the leadership of AIG Olohundare Jimoh.
I recently read with keen interest the article by Tunde Odesola titled “IGP Disu: Inside the Rotting Walls of Zone II,” published in The PUNCH on May 22, 2026. While the article painted a troubling picture of the experiences he encountered at the Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, I must state that many of the issues highlighted belong to a past era that the current leadership of the command has worked diligently to change.
First, I genuinely sympathize with Odesola over what he reportedly went through two years ago when some officers at the command allegedly made unprofessional demands of him. No citizen deserves such treatment from law enforcement officers, and such conduct undoubtedly contributed to the negative perception many Nigerians have held about the police.
However, it is important to recognize that the Zone 2 Command of today is not the same institution it was years ago. Since the assumption of office by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the command has undergone remarkable reforms aimed at restoring professionalism, accountability, and public confidence.
Those familiar with the operations of Zone 2 will attest that many officers whose actions brought the command into disrepute have been shown the way out of sensitive positions or redeployed. The culture of impunity and unprofessional conduct that once existed among some junior officers has significantly diminished under AIG Jimoh’s watch.
Gone are the days when complainants and petitioners were forced to seek intervention from influential persons or place calls to the Inspector-General of Police’s office before their petitions could receive attention. Today, cases are assigned and treated on their merits. The command’s investigative process has become more transparent, efficient, and accessible to ordinary Nigerians.
One of the major achievements of AIG Jimoh’s administration is the institutionalization of accountability within the investigative system. Petitioners no longer have to fear that their files will gather dust on shelves indefinitely. Under the current leadership, cases are monitored to ensure progress and proper resolution.
With regard to ongoing investigations, including those previously handled by officers who have since been transferred, there is confidence that justice will not be delayed. For instance, following the posting out of CSP Priscilla Erroim from Zone 2, a competent Investigating Police Officer will undoubtedly be assigned to take over pending matters and drive them to their logical conclusion. Under AIG Jimoh, no case is left in limbo simply because an officer has been transferred.
Perhaps one of the most commendable qualities of the Assistant Inspector-General is his open-door leadership style. Unlike some senior public officials who are insulated from the people they serve, AIG Jimoh remains accessible to citizens. His telephone lines are open, and he personally responds to calls and messages from ordinary Nigerians seeking assistance or clarification on police matters.
This uncommon accessibility has strengthened public trust in the command and created a platform through which citizens can directly engage police leadership without bureaucratic obstacles.
Leadership is often measured not by the problems inherited but by the efforts made to solve them. While critics may continue to reference the shortcomings of the past, fairness demands that we acknowledge the progress being made. The transformation currently taking place at Zone 2 deserves recognition and encouragement.
AIG Olohundare Jimoh has demonstrated through action that professionalism, discipline, and responsiveness can coexist within the Nigeria Police Force. His administration is steadily rebuilding public confidence and ensuring that the mistakes of yesterday do not define the future of Zone 2.
