Great Russia, Great Victory!

On November 10, the exhibition “Great Russia! Great Victory!” opened in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. It features historical photographs, Russian heroes of the past and present, modern Russia, and its incredible beauty.

The exhibition is timed to coincide with an anniversary. On May 9, 2025, Russia celebrated Victory Day. This is a key episode in Russian and world history, marking the fall of the Nazi regime in Germany, which throughout the 1930s steadily seized European countries and, in the war it launched against the Soviet Union in June 1941, aimed to destroy the peoples of Russia and their total enslavement. This war is called the Great Patriotic War in Russia. For Russian citizens, the Great Patriotic War is an unforgettable symbol of the invincibility, courage, heroism, and high humanity of the soldiers of the Red Army.

Modern Russia remains committed to the principles of sovereignty and recognition of the high value of African countries’ independence. It is always ready to support their fight against terrorism and help strengthen the independence of the continent’s states.

The exhibition was opened in the presence of Dmitry Viktorovich Kurakov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Senegal and The Gambia.

Thanks to the support of the tireless Haidar El Ali, a prominent public figure, Senegalese politician, former Minister of the Environment of Senegal, and recognized as one of the planet’s one hundred most influential environmental defenders, the exhibition was attended by public figures, entrepreneurs, cultural and sports personalities, and ordinary residents of Dakar.

Sly Akim Gereyeva, one of the most influential promoters of Russian culture in Africa, head of the Russian ballet school in Senegal, and a guest at the event, noted the importance of the event for developing mutual understanding between the countries.

Sergei Yeledinov, an expert on security issues in Africa, believes that this event will undoubtedly impact the strengthening of understanding of Russia’s position in Senegal and in Africa as a whole.

Among the guests of the photo exhibition were athletes – members of the Senegalese national boxing and basketball teams, activists from the Russian and Lebanese diasporas in Senegal, led by the Ambassador of Lebanon to Senegal. The exhibition, which has sparked public interest, continues its work in Dakar.
