Judiciary Still Nigeria’s Last Hope, Says Kebbi NBA Chairman
The Chairman of the NBA in Kebbi State says corruption is not rampant in the judiciary, urging Nigerians to report misconduct and support ongoing judicial reforms.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Kebbi State, Aminu Hassan, has defended the integrity of the judiciary, dismissing claims that corruption is deeply entrenched within the nation’s courts.
Speaking during activities marking the Equity Bar Law Week in Birnin Kebbi, Hassan said while some individuals may seek to improperly influence judicial decisions, judges and court officials are bound by law and ethics to perform their duties impartially.
He called on Nigerians to report any proven cases of misconduct and reiterated that bribery remains a punishable offence for both the giver and the recipient.
“We have always discouraged the giving and taking of bribes. The courts play a critical role in maintaining order and resolving disputes in society. We believe the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man,” he stated.
Hassan also highlighted improvements in the administration of justice in Kebbi State, saying ongoing judicial reforms have helped reduce delays in handling cases.
He commended the state government for pursuing the digitalisation of the judiciary, noting that technology would improve efficiency and modernise justice delivery.
The NBA chairman urged lawyers to continually update their skills and adapt to emerging technological trends in the legal profession.
The Law Week event attracted top government officials, including Governor Nasir Idris, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, alongside other stakeholders in the legal sector.
