Six Clerics Abducted in Zamfara During Prayer for Tinubu’s 2027 Bid
Six Muslim clerics have been abducted in Zamfara during a prayer gathering organised in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 bid.
KADUNA — A prayer gathering held in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid has reportedly ended with the abduction of six Muslim clerics by gunmen in Zamfara State.
The incident took place on Saturday in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, according to a report monitored from BBC Hausa on Monday.
The clerics had reportedly gathered to offer prayers for Tinubu’s success in the 2027 presidential election.
The gathering was said to have been organised by former Zamfara State Governor and Chairman of the Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari.
Police authorities confirmed that six clerics had been abducted and said efforts were underway to find them and secure their release.
Initial reports surrounding the incident caused confusion, with accounts suggesting that the clerics were taken from Yari’s residence, where the prayer gathering was allegedly held.
Authorities subsequently clarified that preliminary findings showed that the victims were not abducted from the former governor’s residence.
Security agencies are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances of the abduction and establish the whereabouts of the six clerics.
The incident comes amid persistent insecurity in Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West, where armed groups have continued to carry out attacks and kidnappings despite military and other security operations targeting bandit groups.
The latest abduction has again raised concerns over the safety of public events and residents in Zamfara State.
