Julián Alvarez Resumes Atletico Training as Barcelona Transfer Hopes Diminish
Atletico Madrid forward Julián Alvarez resumes group training after illness as uncertainty over his future continues ahead of the transfer deadline.
Julián Alvarez has resumed training with his Atletico Madrid teammates after recovering from an illness, providing a timely boost to Diego Simeone’s squad with the summer transfer window nearing its close.
The Argentina forward joined the group session on Sunday, following Atletico’s victory over Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
Alvarez had initially missed two team training sessions because of illness and subsequently completed two individual sessions as part of a personalised recovery programme.
He had not trained alongside his teammates since Atletico’s LaLiga match against Villarreal at the Metropolitano but returned to individual work on Friday before being cleared to join the squad on Sunday.
His comeback comes just two days before the transfer window closes, with questions still surrounding whether he will remain at Atletico or make a late move.
The return is particularly significant as Atletico prepares for its next league assignment against Athletic Club at San Mamés.
Should Alvarez remain with the Madrid club beyond the transfer deadline, Atletico is keen to have him fully integrated into Simeone’s plans as soon as possible.
Sporting director Mateu Alemany had earlier indicated that the club was hoping for Alvarez’s quick return.
“We hope he rejoins quickly and is available for the next LaLiga match,” he said.
Alvarez was one of the players involved in the group session on Sunday, while those who featured from the start against Sevilla focused on recovery exercises.
With the deadline fast approaching, speculation surrounding the forward’s future continues, although reports of a potential move to Barcelona appear to be losing momentum.
For the moment, Alvarez’s return to group training gives Atletico a welcome lift ahead of its trip to San Mamés.
