The Labour Party has selected governance expert Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, positioning him as the party’s standard-bearer for the next electoral cycle.

The party announced that Okereke’s emergence followed a broad-based consensus among stakeholders and members, a decision that was formally affirmed in Abuja on May 30, 2026.

In presenting its candidate, the Labour Party highlighted Okereke’s background in governance, public policy and legislative affairs, describing him as a reform advocate with significant experience in institutional development.

Okereke serves as President of the ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation and Policy Hub, where he oversees research and innovation initiatives focused on governance and public policy. He also advises key committees and ranking members of Nigeria’s National Assembly on legislative matters.

Beyond his policy work, Okereke is a resident lecturer at Miva Open University in the Department of Public Policy and Administration, helping to train future leaders and public sector professionals.

According to the Labour Party, his dedication to youth empowerment, education and democratic reforms embodies the competent, accountable and transformational leadership the country needs at this stage of its development.
