Labour Party Picks Otti for 2027 Abia Governorship Race, Abaribe Lands Senate Ticket

The Labour Party has concluded its Abia primaries, producing Alex Otti as governorship candidate and Enyinnaya Abaribe among its senatorial flag bearers for 2027.

Governor Alex Otti has clinched the Labour Party governorship ticket for the 2027 general election in Abia State after winning the party’s direct primary election.

The outcome was announced on Saturday at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, where the party’s National Organising Secretary and Returning Officer, Mrs. Opara, declared that Otti polled 368,230 votes to secure the nomination.

She stated that the primary election was conducted in accordance with both the Labour Party’s constitution and the electoral guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Receiving his Certificate of Return, Otti said his emergence signified a renewed commitment to public service and urged party faithful to remain united as preparations begin for the 2027 polls.

The governor also commended party stakeholders and members for maintaining order and ensuring a smooth primary election process across the state.

In the senatorial contests, Enyinnaya Abaribe emerged as the Labour Party candidate for Abia South, while Darlington Nwokocha secured the ticket for Abia Central. Chief David Ogba Onuoha was selected to represent the party in Abia North.

The party also unveiled candidates for the House of Representatives, including Obi Aguocha, Ginger Onwusibe, Amobi Ogah, Alex Ikwechegh, Ibe Okwara Osonwa, Chima Desmond Anyaso, Ugochukwu Adinigwe, and Wambu Chiemela.

Candidates were equally produced for all 24 constituencies in the Abia State House of Assembly.

Presenting certificates of return to the winners, Labour Party National Secretary Hon. Acho Obioma congratulated the candidates and expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the 2027 elections.

Officials of INEC, led by Resident Electoral Commissioner Prof. Sylvia Agu, monitored the exercise from the ward level through to the final collation and declaration of results in Umuahia, underscoring the transparency of the process.
