Labour Party Primaries: Abaribe Eyes Sixth Senate Term, Nwokocha Returns to the Race
Labour Party primaries in Abia produced victories for Enyinnaya Abaribe, Darlington Nwokocha and serving House of Representatives members seeking re-election.
Labour Party stakeholders in Abia State have endorsed several prominent political figures for the next electoral cycle, with Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe securing the party’s senatorial ticket for another run at the National Assembly.
The ticket positions Abaribe to seek a sixth term in the Senate, extending a political career that has spanned decades.
Although he won his current mandate in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the senator later moved through the Action Democratic Party before joining the Labour Party.
The primaries also marked a political comeback opportunity for Darlington Nwokocha, who emerged as the Labour Party candidate for Abia Central.
Nwokocha had previously occupied the Senate seat before a Court of Appeal ruling overturned his victory and reinstated incumbent senator Austin Akobundu.
Meanwhile, Labour Party lawmakers in the House of Representatives retained strong backing within the party.
Amobi Ogah and all serving Labour Party representatives from Abia successfully secured return tickets, paving the way for re-election campaigns.
The results reflect the party’s decision to maintain continuity by retaining many of its established officeholders as it prepares for future electoral contests.
