Defence Minister General Christopher Musa (retd) has called on Nigerians to rally behind the country’s security forces, insisting that military personnel and other security operatives should not be viewed as adversaries but as fellow victims of insecurity.

Musa made the appeal while speaking at The Platform on June 12 in Lagos, where he highlighted the sacrifices made by security personnel in defending the nation.

“The security forces are not the enemies of the state. In fact, what I always say is that we are all victims,” he stated.

Drawing from his time as commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Musa said one of the most painful aspects of military leadership was breaking tragic news to families of personnel killed in action and witnessing the suffering of those wounded by terrorist attacks.

He recalled the challenges of explaining battlefield losses to grieving families and seeing soldiers permanently disabled after vehicles struck improvised explosive devices.

“So, I want to appeal to Nigerians that as long as these individuals are sacrificing themselves, we have a country to protect. We must honour them, we must support them, we must give them everything that will keep them going,” he said.

The Defence Minister maintained that the fight against insecurity cannot be won by security agencies alone, stressing that public cooperation and support remain crucial to safeguarding communities and sustaining security operations nationwide.
