The Super Falcons went into the match under pressure after Malawi’s 3-1 victory over Egypt, knowing that a defeat would eliminate them from the tournament and end their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.
Oshoala broke the deadlock in the eighth minute, capitalising on a rebound after her first attempt had been saved to give Nigeria the lead.
The nine-time African champions were reduced to 10 players in the 40th minute when Oluwatosin Demehin received a straight red card, leaving Nigeria to defend their slender advantage for the rest of the contest.
The Super Falcons successfully protected their lead to claim a crucial three points.
The result lifts Nigeria to second place in Group C on superior head-to-head, with the team now needing a convincing victory over Egypt in their final group-stage match to secure qualification for the quarter-finals.
