Messi Breaks New Record as Inter Miami Win 2026 Campeones Cup
Messi scored his 100th Inter Miami goal and set a new record for final goals as the club defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 in the Campeones Cup.
Lionel Messi has added another remarkable record to his career after helping Inter Miami claim the 2026 Campeones Cup.
The Argentine superstar scored a header as Inter Miami beat Cruz Azul 2-0 in the clash between the MLS champions and Liga MX champions.
The victory not only delivered another trophy to Messi’s collection but also saw the 39-year-old set a new record for goals scored in football finals.
The official Ballon d’Or website reported that Messi has now scored 36 goals in finals, the highest total recorded by any player in football history.
Messi has played in 53 finals throughout his career, contributing 36 goals and 18 assists.
His strike against Cruz Azul also marked his 100th goal for Inter Miami since arriving at the Major League Soccer club in 2023.
In 115 appearances for Inter Miami, Messi has registered 100 goals and 57 assists, giving him 157 direct goal contributions.
The latest success has further strengthened Messi’s trophy collection at Inter Miami. According to the Ballon d’Or website, the club has won four trophies since his arrival: the 2023 Leagues Cup, 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, 2025 MLS Cup and 2026 Campeones Cup.
The four titles have contributed to Messi’s career trophy haul of 48.
Only Marquinhos and Dani Alves are next on the all-time list, with the Brazilian defenders having won 43 titles each.
Despite turning 39, Messi remains among the nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or following another season marked by individual milestones and team success.
