The South West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected a press conference said to have been held in Ibadan, insisting it was staged by unauthorised individuals with no standing in the party.

The disputed briefing reportedly claimed the zone had denounced former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, supported Governor Seyi Makinde, and aligned with the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).

In response, Zonal Publicity Secretary Akinloye Oyeniyi said the gathering was fictitious and orchestrated by people without recognition at any level of the party.

“The Zonal Chairman, Engr. Deji Doherty, was away in Abuja attending the 108th meeting of the National Executive Committee of our great party and no zonal officials held any press conference. The claim of an Ibadan press conference is therefore a barefaced lie,” he stated.

He added that the individuals behind the event lack even basic party structure representation, including a Zonal Vice Chairman, which he described as essential for any legitimate zonal leadership.

“These are destabilising elements… their group is now a psychiatric ward with no staff,” Oyeniyi said, adding that their actions would not earn them legitimacy.

The party’s South West leadership reaffirmed its loyalty to the Mohammed Abdulrahman-led National Working Committee and APC National Leader Nyesom Wike, describing its position as firm and unwavering.

It also warned against misinformation, urging party members, the public, and the media to disregard the purported Ibadan briefing and rely only on official PDP South West communications.
