The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee probing the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has called on the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to explain why no decisive action was taken after it reportedly confirmed the council was operating without legal backing.

The summons came after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told lawmakers it had sought clarification from the NSA following multiple requests from Prince Adeniyi Matthew Adeyemi, who claimed to be Director-General of the PFIPC, seeking government collaboration for an investment summit.

The ministry said it declined the requests due to discrepancies and later received a response from the NSA indicating that the alleged promoter was not recognised by any Federal Government office.

Raising concerns during the hearing, lawmakers questioned how the council continued to engage in diplomatic activities despite being declared illegal.

Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi said the security office must justify its response.

“Foreign Affairs received correspondences from this agency under investigation. They noticed discrepancies and requested the Office of the NSA to find out the status of the agency. The NSA responded that it is an illegal agency. What has the Office of the NSA done as a security office after discovering that the agency does not exist?” he asked.

The committee also warned defaulting Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to appear before its next sitting with all requested documents, stressing that failure to comply could attract constitutional sanctions.
