Reece James Faces Three-Month Chelsea Absence Following Knee Operation
Reece James faces around three months out after a knee injury in training, with Chelsea confirming successful surgery and the start of his rehabilitation.
Chelsea could be without captain Reece James for approximately three months after the defender underwent minor knee surgery following an injury in training.
James, 26, sustained the injury last Friday, just one day before the Blues recorded a convincing 5-1 Premier League win against Bournemouth.
The club announced on Friday that the surgery had been successful and confirmed that the England international had started rehabilitation with Chelsea’s medical team. No specific timeline for his return has been provided by the club.
His expected absence could rule him out of several important matches, including league fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Manchester City, alongside Chelsea’s Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool.
Chelsea face Everton away on Saturday before taking on Tottenham at home on October 24. The Blues are then due to travel to Liverpool on October 28 and host Manchester United on October 31.
The setback adds to James’ injury troubles, which have repeatedly disrupted his availability over the past few seasons.
Last season, however, he managed 29 Premier League appearances, marking his highest number of league outings since 2020-21. He was also named in England’s World Cup squad.
The Chelsea skipper has made six appearances across all competitions this season, three of them as a Premier League starter. He signed a new six-year deal with the club in March, underlining his long-term commitment to Stamford Bridge.
