Sterling Released on Bail After Arrest Over Suspected Drug-Driving Incident
Raheem Sterling has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving following a motorway crash in southern England and remains under police investigation.
Former England star Raheem Sterling is under investigation after being arrested on suspicion of drug-driving following a motorway crash involving his Lamborghini.
Police said the 31-year-old was detained after the vehicle struck barriers on the M3 motorway in Hampshire on Thursday morning.
In a statement, Hampshire Police said: “Just before 9:00 am (0800 GMT) on Thursday, we received reports that a Lamborghini was in collision with barriers on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange.”
Authorities noted that no other vehicles were involved in the crash and that nobody was injured.
The police further stated that the driver was arrested on suspicion of “driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen.”
Sterling has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The development comes after a challenging period in the footballer’s career. Sources close to him told Britain’s Press Association that Sterling had experienced “immeasurable” psychological pressure and had been made to feel “worthless” and “forgotten about” in recent years.
The same sources emphasised that the player had only been arrested on suspicion and that there was currently no “proof of anything in his system.”
Sterling rose to prominence after breaking into Liverpool’s first team before securing a move to Manchester City in 2015, where he won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and an FA Cup. He later joined Chelsea in 2022 and spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Arsenal.
Most recently, he featured for Feyenoord, making eight appearances after signing a short-term contract in February.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
