Benue Bus Attack: Eight Rescued Victims Identified as JAMB Candidates
Authorities say eight of the rescued Benue kidnap victims were UTME candidates abducted while heading to Otukpo for exams.
Eight of the victims rescued from the Benue Links bus abduction have been identified as candidates preparing for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
The passengers were kidnapped on April 15, 2026, while travelling in an 18-seater bus to Otukpo for their UTME exams.
They regained their freedom on Sunday morning after being held for about three days.
The rescued victims, including three female candidates, were escorted to the Benue State Government House in Makurdi by Police Commissioner Ifeanyi Emenari, together with their parents and guardians, for reception by Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The survivors were visibly weak and fatigued after their ordeal, with formal documentation and verification still underway before their official reception by the state government.
