Breaking: 13 Abducted Benue Bus Passengers, Including JAMB Candidates, Freed
Kidnapped passengers from a Benue Links bus, including JAMB candidates, have been freed and are receiving medical treatment.
The 13 remaining passengers abducted from a Benue Links bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo route have regained their freedom, including several JAMB examination candidates.
The passengers were kidnapped last Wednesday when armed men attacked the 18-seater vehicle en route to Otukpo. Among those freed, about eight were candidates travelling for the JAMB examination.
According to sources, the victims were released in the early hours of Sunday after being held captive for roughly three days.
Authorities have yet to disclose details of how the rescue was carried out, but security forces were said to have intensified operations in the area prior to their release.
The freed victims have since been taken for urgent medical care and are receiving treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo.
Confirming the development, Benue State Police Commissioner Ifeanyi Emenari said the command would provide a detailed briefing later.
