The Association of Igbo Residents in Ibadan has voiced strong support for Governor Seyi Makinde while warning against attempts to drag the Olubadan stool into partisan politics.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan, the group raised concerns over recent political developments and remarks linked to former Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose, describing them as capable of disrupting the state’s stability.

Barrister Ndo Ofurenna, speaking for the association, commended the Makinde administration for its inclusiveness and commitment to development.

The group criticised Fayose’s involvement in Oyo’s affairs, calling it unnecessary and potentially divisive, and alleged collaboration with other political actors, including Nyesom Wike, to undermine the state government.

Highlighting the importance of traditional institutions, the association warned against politicising the Olubadan stool.

“We condemn any attempt by any political actor to exploit traditional institutions for selfish interests,” it said.

The group also addressed succession issues, noting that leadership selection is determined by due process under the Electoral Act, not personal imposition.

It dismissed impeachment rumours as unfounded, stating that Makinde retains widespread support due to his administration’s performance.

According to the association, Oyo State has enjoyed peace, ethnic harmony, and inclusiveness under the current government.

“We will not fold our arms and allow external forces to sow discord in a state where unity has been carefully nurtured,” it added.
