Eko Power: LASERC Licensed Us to Distribute Electricity in Southern Lagos
Eko Power says it is licensed by LASERC to distribute electricity in southern Lagos, with tariffs and service commitments governed by state regulations.
Eko Power Limited has reiterated that it holds a distribution licence from the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), authorising it to supply electricity to the southern parts of Lagos State.
The company attributed its emergence to reforms in Nigeria’s electricity sector that transferred regulatory authority over electricity generation, transmission and distribution within individual states to their respective governments.
In a statement, Eko Power said, “Eko Power Limited is the distribution company licensed by the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) to distribute power in the southern parts of Lagos State.”
The company said the regulatory shift was enabled by the Electricity Act 2023, as amended, alongside the 2023 constitutional amendment, which granted state governments the authority to regulate electricity markets within their boundaries.
It noted that the transition was completed in June 2025, when LASERC took over the regulation of retail electricity distribution and end-user tariffs in Lagos State.
Eko Power further explained that its operations are governed by a distribution licence issued by LASERC, as well as the commission’s tariff methodology and service-level requirements.
The company said its regulatory framework was reflected in its LASERC-approved cost-reflective tariffs and published service-level commitments covering all customer bands and feeders in Lagos State.
“This is reflected in Eko Power Limited’s own LASERC-approved cost-reflective tariffs and its published service-level commitments across all customer bands and feeders in Lagos State,” it said.
Emphasising the legal basis for its operations, the company stated, “Eko Power Limited exists today because Lagos State exercised its constitutional right to regulate retail electricity distribution within the state.”
It also maintained that its distribution licence and tariff arrangements were determined under the state’s regulatory framework.
“We are licensed by LASERC for distribution and tariffs, and our service commitments to customers are set independently under Lagos State law,” the company said.
