JAMB, WAEC Fix ₦4,000 One-Time Fee for O’Level Result Verification, by Faith Ogbotor
The development is expected to provide relief to admission seekers and make the O’Level result verification process more efficient as institutions begin implementing the new arrangement.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have fixed ₦4,000 as a one-time fee for the verification of O’Level results submitted by candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The new arrangement takes effect from September 1, 2026, as part of efforts to simplify the verification process and reduce the financial burden on admission seekers.
Under the arrangement, candidates presenting their WAEC/WASSCE results for admissions regulated by JAMB will pay the ₦4,000 verification fee through the designated JAMB verification service.
Unlike previous arrangements that could require candidates to undergo verification at different institutions, the new system makes the payment a one-off charge. Candidates are therefore not expected to pay another verification fee when the same verified result is required by another relevant institution for admission processing.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to make the verification outcome available to the relevant tertiary institutions where candidates are seeking admission.
The two examination bodies said the initiative is intended to reduce repeated verification, unnecessary costs and the stress associated with the admission process, while ensuring that candidates’ academic records are properly verified.
Candidates can also initiate the verification process from an internet-enabled location, making the procedure more convenient and reducing the need for repeated physical visits to institutions or verification centres.
