Kaduna: Soldiers Repel Church Attack, Free 31 Abducted Worshippers
Troops rescue 31 worshippers in Kaduna after gunmen attacked a church during Easter service, leaving five people dead.
The Nigerian Army has successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a church in Ariko Village, Kachia LGA of Kaduna State, rescuing 31 abducted worshippers.
The incident occurred during an Easter service when gunmen invaded the ECWA Church and abducted several congregants, triggering panic in the community.
According to military sources, troops responded swiftly to a distress call and pursued the attackers with assistance from residents.
“In the course of the operation, troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce firefight… forcing them to abandon 31 hostages,” the source revealed.
One of the rescued victims sustained injuries and is receiving treatment, while five others were killed before the rescue operation.
Security sources also noted signs that the fleeing attackers suffered losses, as blood trails were observed along their escape routes.
Troops have since launched intensified operations to apprehend the perpetrators and locate any remaining victims.
Reinforcements have been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
The Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, calling on the public to support security efforts with useful information.
The attack had initially caused panic in the Ariko community before calm was restored following the military’s swift response.
