Ayra Starr Names Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Rema as Her Afrobeats ‘Big 3’

Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has identified Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema as her personal “Big 3” in the genre.

She shared the list during a recent interview with Hot 97, when asked which artistes she believes have had the most influence on Afrobeats and its global rise.

“My Afrobeats Big 3 would be Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema. My solid Big 3,” Starr said.

The ‘Rush’ singer noted that her choices were based on the different ways each artiste has shaped the genre. She described Tiwa Savage as a trailblazing female artist whose success has helped create opportunities for women in Afrobeats.

Her comments contribute to the continuing discussion about who truly represents the genre’s most influential acts.

For a long time, the term “Big 3” has typically referred to Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, largely because of their dominance in sales, streaming and international recognition.

Still, the idea has been challenged by some artists.

In September 2025, Tiwa Savage criticised the label, saying it tends to ignore the achievements of other notable Afrobeats stars.

She mentioned musicians including Yemi Alade, Flavour N’abania, Asake and Tems as artists who have also contributed significantly to the genre’s development and global recognition.

Starr’s stance highlights how conversations around Afrobeats influence continue to evolve as new artists reshape the genre and its narrative.
