Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf Restructures Education Ministry, Sacks Deputy Governor from Commissionership
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf merges the Ministry of Higher Education with the Ministry of Education to improve coordination, reduce costs, and accelerate reforms. Deputy Governor Gwarzo is removed as Commissioner.
The Kano State government, under Abba Yusuf, has scrapped the Ministry of Higher Education, removing Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo from his position as Commissioner.
The ministry has been merged with the Ministry of Education in a move designed to improve coordination, reduce duplication, and fast-track reforms across all levels of education in the state.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson Sanusi Bature, a Directorate of Higher Education will now handle all tertiary education activities.
“The directorate will be headed by a Permanent Secretary and supported by the necessary personnel to ensure effective management of higher education institutions in the state,” the statement said.
Agencies under the former Higher Education Ministry, including the Scholarship Board, will now fall under the Ministry of Education, while state universities and other tertiary institutions will be overseen by the new directorate.
Governor Yusuf described the restructuring as a key step in his administration’s State of Education Reform, aimed at cutting governance costs, improving efficiency, and boosting accountability.
“The Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service have been directed to ensure immediate and seamless realignment of the affected ministries and their departments,” the statement noted.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to reforms that will enhance the quality of education and secure a better future for the younger generation in Kano State.
