The Nigerian Navy has recorded a breakthrough in its anti-oil theft operations, intercepting 44,000 litres of suspected illegal fuel and arresting eight individuals in Rivers State.

According to Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation was conducted by personnel of NNS Pathfinder under Operation Delta Sentinel across Degema, Ogbogoro, and Ogbologo.

“Acting on credible intelligence… personnel… deployed an Anti-Crude Oil Theft patrol team,” he said.

“This led to the interception of two wooden boats carrying approximately 44,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).”

Eight suspects were apprehended during the operation, while some accomplices reportedly fled.

Folorunsho confirmed that the suspects and recovered products are in custody and will be transferred to relevant authorities for prosecution.

He said the effort is part of ongoing directives by the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, to strengthen action against illegal bunkering and maritime crimes.

“The Nigerian Navy remains committed… through intelligence-driven operations, enhanced patrols, and inter-agency collaboration,” he added.
