Power Supply to Return This Week, Aba Power Says as Gas System Repairs Progress
Aba Power assures residents that electricity will return soon after Heirs Energies completed key repairs to the gas supply system serving Geometric Power.
Aba Power says electricity will be restored to the Aba Ring-fenced Area before the end of the week following significant progress in resolving the gas supply disruption responsible for the ongoing blackout.
The company gave the assurance while receiving members of the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Public Utilities, who visited to evaluate the cause of the power outage affecting nine local government areas in the state.
Chairman of Aba Power, Bart Nnaji, disclosed that electricity would be restored once the installation of a critical gas pressure system component is completed.
He explained that the Clutch Gear and Starter Motor, procured from the United States by Heirs Energies, has already arrived in Nigeria. Heirs Energies operates OML 17 and supplies gas to the 188MW Geometric Power Plant located in Osisioma, Aba.
The blackout began last Thursday after Heirs Energies announced that the Clutch Gear and Starter Motor at its Associated Gas Gathering (AGG) Plant in Obigbo, Rivers State, had failed due to the age of the equipment.
Before the disruption, the Aba Ring-fenced Area had enjoyed improved and relatively stable electricity supply since the commissioning of the Geometric Power project about two years ago.
During the visit, the Chairman of the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Public Utilities, Aaron Uzodike, expressed concern over the prolonged outage, noting that residents had become used to consistent power supply and were eager to see electricity restored as soon as possible.
