Real Madrid’s Mbappé in Paris for Knee Evaluation, Surgery Ruled Out for Now
Kylian Mbappé is set for additional knee evaluations after missing Real Madrid’s match against Benfica. Surgery is not planned as he targets a return to full fitness.
Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé will undergo further medical checks on his injured knee, although no operation is planned at this stage.
The 27-year-old forward has struggled with a problem affecting the external ligament in his left knee since the end of 2025.
Mbappé was unavailable for Madrid’s Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica last week and has travelled to Paris for additional tests.
He is also set to miss Monday’s La Liga fixture against Getafe CF, while his involvement in the upcoming Champions League Round of 16 clash with Manchester City remains in doubt.
A statement issued by Mbappé’s representatives confirmed he is in Paris accompanied by Real Madrid’s medical team.
“In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee with the aim of optimising his follow-up care and preparing for his comeback,” it said.
“No surgical intervention is being planned at the moment.”
Head coach Álvaro Arbeloa previously stated that allowing Mbappé sufficient time to regain full fitness was a joint decision.
“It was a bit of a consensus between everyone and we think the best thing is that he stops, that he recovers and comes back at 100%,” Arbeloa said.
“It’s not going to be a question of days, it will be a bit longer, but I can’t say how long. Hopefully not too long.”
Mbappé completed a free transfer to Real Madrid in June 2024 after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired. He has scored 38 goals in 33 appearances for the club this season
