Reece James: Chelsea Captain Has Knee Surgery After Training Injury
Chelsea have confirmed that Reece James underwent knee surgery after missing two Premier League matches, with the England international now beginning rehabilitation.
Chelsea have confirmed that captain Reece James has successfully undergone knee surgery after sustaining an injury in training.
The Premier League side announced the development on Friday, adding that the 26-year-old England international had already started his recovery.
James missed Chelsea’s last two league fixtures, a 3-0 loss to Brentford and a 5-1 triumph over Bournemouth.
He was unavailable for Saturday’s victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge while the club’s medical team assessed the injury and determined the appropriate treatment.
“The 26-year-old was absent from Saturday’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge while medical assessments took place following the injury suffered in training,” Chelsea said in a statement.
“Those assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action.
“Reece has already begun his road to recovery and will be supported by the club’s medical department at Cobham during this rehabilitation phase.”
Chelsea said James would receive support from the club’s medical department at its Cobham training facility throughout his rehabilitation. The club did not announce a date for his expected return.
The Blues are sixth in the Premier League standings as they prepare to face Everton away from home on Saturday.
