TSU ASUU Threatens Strike Over Unpaid Arrears, Gives Taraba Govt 14 Days
Taraba State University ASUU chapter issues a 14-day ultimatum over unpaid arrears and non-implementation of the 2025 ASUU-FGN agreement.
JALINGO: The Taraba State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Taraba State Government 14 days to address outstanding agreements and unpaid financial arrears or risk industrial action.
The union’s branch Chairman, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, announced the decision on Thursday after the union’s congress adopted the resolution.
Mbave described the ultimatum as a formal demand for compliance with the union’s outstanding issues, stressing that it was not an opening for another round of negotiations.
In a statement, he appealed to the Taraba State Government, TSU Governing Council and university management to resolve the issues within the specified period.
He cautioned that the lecturers’ continued patience should not be misconstrued as acceptance of the situation.
Mbave said the resolution was based on directives and resolutions of ASUU’s National Executive Council regarding the non-implementation of relevant provisions of the ASUU-Federal Government 2025 Agreement.
“The Union considers the continued non-implementation of the Agreement unacceptable and fundamentally inconsistent with the principles of good-faith negotiation, collective bargaining, legitimate expectation, and established industrial relations practice,” he said.
The ASUU chairman maintained that agreements reached through recognised negotiation processes should be respected and implemented within the agreed or otherwise reasonable timeframe.
He said the ultimatum took effect on August 13, 2026, and would run until August 26, 2026.
A key demand of the union is the immediate and complete implementation of all applicable outstanding provisions of the 2025 ASUU-FGN Agreement.
The union is also seeking payment of all outstanding financial arrears accumulated from January 2026 to date.
Mbave called on the government and university authorities to act before the expiration of the ultimatum, warning that failure to resolve the issues could lead to disruption of academic activities at Taraba State University.
