Lagos Roads: Sanwo-Olu Directs Public Works Corporation to Begin Immediate Rehabilitation
Sanwo-Olu directs the Lagos State Public Works Corporation to rehabilitate roads in Oshodi-Isolo, Ikeja, Somolu, Alimosho and other areas.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the immediate reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads across the state as the government takes advantage of the dry season to address deteriorating infrastructure.
The directive was disclosed on Thursday by the General Manager of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), Engr. Tokunbo Ajanaku, during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects across several parts of the state.
Ajanaku said the corporation had intensified its interventions, particularly in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, where reconstruction is ongoing on Godwin Omonuwa Road, Taiwo Street, Salamotu Street, Peter Agah Street and Ibeh Street.
He noted that the projects were approved under Sanwo-Olu’s directive to improve road infrastructure and strengthen connectivity between communities.
“These roads are important links within the Oshodi-Isolo axis, serving residents, traders, business owners and other road users daily.
“Their reconstruction will not only improve mobility but also reduce transportation costs, enhance road safety, boost commercial activities and create a more conducive environment for businesses and residents,” Ajanaku said.
Other locations covered by the inspection include Ogunnusi Road in Ojodu LCDA, Awolowo Way in Ikeja Local Government Area, Lanre Awolokun Road and Idowu Olaitan Street in Somolu Local Government Area, and Idimu-Ikotun Road in Alimosho Local Government Area.
The LSPWC general manager explained that persistent rainfall during the wet season hampered asphalt laying, although emergency palliative repairs were maintained to keep essential roads accessible to motorists.
With weather conditions now more favourable, Ajanaku said the corporation was moving towards comprehensive rehabilitation designed to deliver more lasting results.
He added that nighttime maintenance and asphalt laying had been adopted on several projects to minimise disruption to traffic across the busy metropolis.
“To minimise traffic gridlock in the bustling metropolis, a significant portion of maintenance and asphalt laying is being carried out at night under safety protocols,” he stated.
Ajanaku appealed to residents to exercise patience while the work continues, explaining that the corporation prioritises roads according to their condition, traffic volume and the urgency of repairs.
He assured residents that the intervention would be expanded progressively to cover more communities across Lagos State.
