Disorder broke out in Abuja on Friday as journalists struggled to secure accreditation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) convention, exposing gaps in the event’s planning and organisation.

At the Kano Hall of Transcorp Hilton, over 100 journalists converged in hopes of obtaining access tags, but tensions rose after officials announced that only a small number of tags remained.

According to the coordinator overseeing the process, most of the accreditation tags reserved for APC correspondents had already been issued, leaving many journalists without access.

The announcement triggered widespread frustration, with journalists decrying what they described as a lack of transparency and inadequate planning.

The situation quickly escalated into heated confrontations, as reporters pressed for entry into the convention venue.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force were eventually deployed to calm tensions and maintain order at the scene.

The development has sparked criticism among media practitioners, who are calling on APC organisers to implement a more transparent and efficient accreditation system in future.

As of press time, the party had yet to release an official statement addressing the incident.
