Courtney Clenney Gets Six-Year Prison Sentence Over Death of Nigerian Boyfriend

Former OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney has been sentenced to six years in prison for the 2022 killing of her Nigerian boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, after pleading guilty to manslaughter in Miami, Florida.

The 30-year-old accepted a plea deal on Monday, pleading guilty to manslaughter with a deadly weapon. The agreement brings to a close a highly publicised criminal case that has lasted for more than four years.

Following her prison term, Clenney will serve five years on probation.

CBS News and Fox News reported that she will be credited for the nearly four years she has already spent in custody following her August 2022 arrest. With that credit, she is expected to have approximately two additional years left to serve before starting probation.

Obumseli, aged 27, died after being fatally stabbed on April 3, 2022, at the Miami apartment where he lived with Clenney.

The former model initially faced a second-degree murder charge and insisted that she had stabbed Obumseli in self-defence during a confrontation.

Her legal team argued that Obumseli had been abusive and that Clenney threw a knife at him while attempting to defend herself.

Prosecutors disputed that account, presenting evidence of what they described as a volatile relationship marked by repeated domestic conflicts.

The plea agreement ultimately replaced the murder charge with manslaughter with a deadly weapon.

Addressing the court, Miami-Dade prosecutor Shawn Abuhoff said Clenney was accepting responsibility for her conduct.

“She is taking criminal responsibility for her action, the state is willing to accept her plea,” Abuhoff said.

As part of the sentence, Clenney must undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations and receive treatment after her release. Prosecutors also said she would be prohibited from making money from the case.

Obumseli’s family used the sentencing hearing to speak about the emotional impact of his death.

His mother, Ocio Obumseli, told the court that the family continues to live with the pain of losing her son.

“The loss of Christian did not end April 4; we carry it with us every day,” she said.

She also said: “Christian, your legacy and your memory will remain with us. We miss you, we love you; may you continue to rest in peace, my son.”

Larry Handfield, the family’s attorney, said Clenney’s guilty plea provided some level of closure because the family wanted her to take responsibility for Obumseli’s death.

“What the family wanted was accountability,” Handfield said.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle similarly said the plea agreement enabled Obumseli’s family to hear Clenney acknowledge responsibility for his death.

People reported that the agreement was reached in consultation with, and received the approval of, Obumseli’s family.

The case had generated widespread interest, particularly because of the couple’s relationship and the different accounts surrounding the circumstances of Obumseli’s death.

Clenney, who was also known as Courtney Tailor online, had a substantial social media following before her arrest.

With the guilty plea, the criminal proceedings end without the second-degree murder trial that had been expected.

She will complete the remainder of her six-year prison sentence and then serve five years under probation.
