Governor Umo Eno and Christian leaders have paid tribute to late evangelist Uma Ukpai, describing him as a transformative figure in Nigeria’s spiritual landscape.

At a Night of Songs and Tributes in Uyo, organised by the Akwa Ibom State Government, Eno said the cleric played a key role in shaping the spiritual identity of the state.

“He consistently prayed for the peace and progress of this State and offered wise counsel that strengthened our shared pursuit of sustainable growth and spiritual renewal,” the governor said.

He noted that although Ukpai hailed from Abia State, he made Uyo his base through the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, impacting lives globally.

Delivering a sermon titled “Across the Bridge,” Emmanuel Kure described Ukpai as “a great spiritual intercessor” and “a hero of faith,” adding that his passing should inspire young ministers to rise and continue his work.

National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Francis Wale Oke, also recognised Ukpai as one of the founding fathers of the body, praising his legacy of unity and spiritual leadership.

Former Nigerian Ambassador to Russia, Assam Assam, described him as a man of “truth, honour, courage, passion, and conviction,” noting his role in mentoring leaders and advancing human capital development.

The event celebrated Ukpai’s enduring influence, with speakers agreeing that his legacy remains an “irreplaceable asset” to Akwa Ibom State and beyond.
