Sirens warning of incoming attacks sounded twice within minutes in Jerusalem on Wednesday after the Israeli military reported detecting two missile barrages fired from Iran, according to AFP journalists on the ground.

The military stated that air defence systems were “operating to intercept the threat.”

Soon after announcing the first wave, the army said in another statement that “several launches… from Lebanon toward Israeli territory were successfully intercepted after sirens sounded in central Israel.”

The conflict expanded further on Monday when Hezbollah, backed by Iran, launched an attack from Lebanon. The group said it aimed to “avenge” the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, during US-Israeli strikes, leading to Israeli retaliation.
