The re-election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is facing legal challenges after the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed separate petitions before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal on Monday displayed the petitions on the notice board at its secretariat in Osogbo, marking the formal commencement of the process for resolving disputes arising from the August 15 governorship election.

Dated September 5, 2026, the two petitions were filed by the opposition parties challenging the outcome of the poll that returned Adeleke for a second term.

The Secretary of the tribunal, Pefe Belemore, confirmed the filing of petitions challenging the election result.

During Vanguard’s visit to the tribunal secretariat on Monday, Belemore and other tribunal officials were in the courtroom preparing for the commencement of proceedings.

The APC’s case, identified as EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. He listed Adeleke, the Accord Party and INEC as respondents.

The PDP’s petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.

The filing is expected to lead to the service of court documents on the parties involved before further proceedings and hearings take place before the tribunal.

Also, officials of the Accord Party and members of its legal team were observed entering the tribunal complex shortly before the Vanguard correspondent left.

Adeleke, the candidate of the Accord Party, was declared winner of the August 15 election with 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji of the APC, who polled 444,815 votes.
