‘Spirit Unbroken’: Atiku, Malami, Amaechi Pay Condolence Visits to El-Rufai
Senior Nigerian political figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Abubakar Malami, have paid condolence visits to Nasir El-Rufai following the passing of his mother.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai remains strong and steadfast following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
Atiku made the remark after visiting El-Rufai at his Abuja residence, where he led a delegation to commiserate with the bereaved family.
“I share with Mallam the deep pain of this loss… we prayed for the repose of the soul of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai,” he said.
Reflecting on the visit, he added: “I was pleased to observe that Mallam remains strong in faith, his spirit unbroken… I encouraged him to remain steadfast, for this too shall pass.”
Former Attorney General Abubakar Malami also visited, offering prayers for the deceased and strength for the family.
“I extended my heartfelt sympathies… and prayed Almighty Allah grants her eternal rest… and gives the family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
Other political figures, including Rotimi Amaechi, were also reported to have paid visits or reached out.
The condolence visits come as mourning continues for Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died in Cairo on Friday.
El-Rufai returned to his Abuja residence after being granted temporary release by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on compassionate grounds to attend her burial.
He had been detained since February 18 over allegations of financial misconduct.
Separately, he is facing prosecution by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged phone interception claims involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, with arraignment scheduled for April 23 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
