Former Rivers State governor and ex-Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused former President Goodluck Jonathan and former First Lady Patience Jonathan of forcing him out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday, Amaechi said he was pushed out after the Jonathans allegedly took control of the political structure in Rivers State.

“I was literally chased out of the PDP…the president, Goodluck and his wife, took over the political structure in Rivers State and forced me out. The same thing happened in APC,” he said.

Amaechi maintained that he has consistently faced injustice within political parties, both in the PDP and later in the APC, which he left in 2025 over his criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.

“I will never keep quiet in the face of injustice. When I speak up, they begin to plan to make me irrelevant,” he said.

Now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Amaechi said he would support Atiku Abubakar if he becomes the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

While acknowledging Atiku’s qualifications, he urged broader considerations. “Although he is eminently qualified to be president of Nigeria… he has to understand that there are other factors beyond where he comes from,” he said.

Amaechi also rejected the idea of zoning, arguing that competence should take precedence over regional considerations. “I don’t agree with north or south or any such divisions,” he added.
