Trump Vows Continued Pressure on Iran, Signals Potential Strike on Pickaxe Mountain
Donald Trump says the US may launch a heavy strike on Iran’s underground Pickaxe Mountain nuclear facility, insisting Washington is not ending its military campaign against Tehran.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared that the United States would continue its military pressure on Iran, saying the campaign was “not finished at all” and indicating that the underground Pickaxe Mountain nuclear complex could be targeted next.
Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the White House alongside Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
The Pickaxe Mountain facility, situated near Natanz, is believed by Western intelligence agencies to be a deeply buried site where Iran may be developing an undeclared uranium enrichment facility.
“We’ll be hitting that area pretty soon, and very heavily,” Trump said. “There’s not a thing they can do about it.”
He also argued that Iran’s current military and infrastructure losses would require decades to recover from.
“If we left right now, it would take Iran 20, 25 years to rebuild. Okay, and we’re not finished at all… we’re not leaving right now,” the US president stated.
The comments came as regional tensions continued to rise. Iran expanded its military strikes across the Middle East on Tuesday, two weeks after its conflict with the United States resumed, with Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain among the countries reported to have come under attack.
