Tambuwal Calls for Coordinated Action as Insecurity Persists in Sokoto

Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator for Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has renewed calls for stronger and more coordinated security operations following fresh attacks by armed groups in parts of the state.

In a statement released by his media office on Wednesday, Tambuwal expressed concern over the worsening security situation in Kebbe, Shagari and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas, where residents were reportedly killed, abducted, displaced and had their livestock stolen.

The former governor paid tribute to ASP Hussaini Balarabe, who reportedly lost his life during an exchange of gunfire with armed bandits in Kebbe while carrying out his official duties.

“The death of ASP Hussaini Balarabe in the line of duty is deeply painful. We mourn his passing and honour his courage, patriotism and commitment to protecting innocent Nigerians,” Tambuwal said.

He conveyed his condolences to the officer’s family, the Nigeria Police Force and the people of Kebbe Local Government Area.

Tambuwal also sympathised with residents of Shagari, describing the recent attacks, kidnappings and cattle rustling as deeply troubling.

“Our people in Shagari and other affected communities deserve adequate protection. Every effort must be made to restore confidence and enable them to return safely to their homes, farms and businesses,” he said.

He extended similar sympathies to residents of Sabon Birni, where recurring attacks and abductions have continued to pose serious security challenges.

According to the senator, continued violence across Sokoto and the North-West is affecting lives, economic activities and food production, making it imperative for authorities to strengthen existing security measures.

Tambuwal commended the commitment of security agencies but urged the Federal Government to improve intelligence gathering, surveillance, rapid response systems and joint security operations across vulnerable communities.

“Security operations must remain sustained, coordinated and adequately resourced until these communities are secured and those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice,” he added.

He further appealed for intensified efforts to rescue those still being held captive and ensure suspects are prosecuted in line with the law.

Tambuwal also urged traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to work closely with security agencies by providing credible intelligence capable of preventing future attacks.

He concluded by praying for those who lost their lives, wishing the injured a quick recovery and expressing hope for the safe return of all abducted victims while reiterating the need for lasting peace and security across Sokoto State and the North-West.
